Interviewer: Hello and welcome to School Talk! Today I'm joined by a former student of our school, Lisa Osborne. Lisa graduated from our school last June and is about to go to college in New York. Lisa, thank you for coming to share your suggestions for high school with us.

Lisa: Hi, everybody. I'm very glad to be back. I feel as if high school was only yesterday!

Interviewer: So what helped when you first started high school?

Lisa: Orientation Day was really helpful. It's a fantastic opportunity for new students to get to know the school and the other students. I even made some new friends! Just keep an open mind and take part in as much as possible.

Interviewer: That's sound advice for sure. But how did you deal with new challenges, like starting a new course?

Lisa: I had a chemistry test right at the end of the first week. I was frightened at the sight of the test paper. But then I figured I'd better just go all out and see what happens. If you fail, no problem—next time you can fail better!

Interviewer: So, hold your head up, then. But life is not always easy. You must have had some moments when you were disappointed. If so, how did you deal with them?

Lisa: As a member of the school volleyball team, I wasn't selected for the end-of-year competition. At first I was really sad, but later I realized that I joined the team for the love of the sport. It wasn't just about winning. So I kept working hard to support my teammates during our training. There's always a way to be part of something you love, isn't there?

Interviewer: Yes, I totally agree. Is there anything else in particular that you'd like to share with us?

Lisa: Looking back on my high school life, the most important advice I'd give is these wonderful words from the writer Maya Angelou. She said, "Be a rainbow in somebody else's cloud." So, give your friends a hand when they need it. And this will make you feel good, too.

Interviewer: Neat! Well, thanks again for coming to speak to us, Lisa. And good luck with college!

1】Lisa graduated from our school last June and is about to go to college in New York.
Lisa graduated … and is about to go …
【分层】and 连接两个并列谓语:前段 graduated from our school last June 为一般过去时;后段 is about to go to college 用 be about to do 表示"即将";in New York 为地点状语修饰 college。
【考点】并列谓语;be about to do 表将来;一般过去时。

2】It's a fantastic opportunity for new students to get to know the school and the other students.
It's a fantastic opportunity.
【分层】It 为形式主语,真正的主语是后面的 for new students to get to know … 不定式复合结构(for + 宾语 + to do);and 连接 the school 与 the other students 两个并列宾语。
【考点】形式主语 it;for sb to do 不定式复合结构作真正主语。

3】But then I figured I'd better just go all out and see what happens.
I figured (that) …
I'd better go all out and see …,and 连接 go 与 see 两个并列动词;see 后又接 what happens 这个 what 引导的宾语从句作 see 的宾语。
【考点】省略 that 的宾语从句;had better do;what 引导的宾语从句。

4】As a member of the school volleyball team, I wasn't selected for the end-of-year competition.
I wasn't selected for the competition.
As a member of the school volleyball team 为介词短语作状语,说明说话人身份;谓语 wasn't selected 为一般过去时的被动语态(be + done),for the end-of-year competition 为范围状语。

5】Looking back on my high school life, the most important advice I'd give is these wonderful words from the writer Maya Angelou.
【主干】the most important advice is these wonderful words.
Looking back on my high school life 时";advice 后接 I'd give,是省略关系词(that / which)的定语从句修饰 advice;from the writer Maya Angelou 为介词短语作后置定语修饰 words。

graduated, was frightened, figured, wasn't selected, realized, kept working.

3. be about to do 表示即将发生
is about to go to college.

I wasn't selected for the end-of-year competition. be (was) + 过去分词,主语是动作承受者。

It's a fantastic opportunity for new students to …. it

Looking back on my high school life, ….

There's always a way to be part of something you love, isn't there? 前肯后否,助动词/be 动词与 there be 呼应。

8. 并列与转折连词(but / and / so)
But then I figured …;It wasn't just about winning. So I kept working hard ….

1:I feel as if … was only yesterday!
课文:I feel as if high school was only yesterday!

It's a fantastic opportunity for you to show your talent.(这是你展示才华的绝佳机会。)

3:I figured I'd better just … and see what happens.
课文:I figured I'd better just go all out and see what happens.
I figured I'd better just ask the teacher and see what happens.(我觉得最好还是去问问老师,看会怎样。)

4:As a member of …, I wasn't selected for …
课文:As a member of the school volleyball team, I wasn't selected for the end-of-year competition.
As a member of the choir, I wasn't chosen for the final show.(作为合唱团一员,我没能入选最终演出。)

5:Looking back on …, the most important advice I'd give is …
课文:Looking back on my high school life, the most important advice I'd give is these wonderful words …
Looking back on my childhood, the most important advice I'd give is to stay curious.(回顾童年,我最想给的建议就是保持好奇心。)
