Last spring, I joined a volunteer group that helps protect stray animals in the city.
I went to a shelter with more than 80 cats and dogs. Some were abandoned and some were injured. My task was to help clean the cages and prepare food. When I fed a one-eyed dog named Lucky, I felt both sad and admiring. Although it was in a poor condition, it wagged its tail and rested its head on my hand.
The shelter keeper told us that animals don't ask for much, just food, shelter and kindness. That simple sentence touched me deeply.
I realized that protecting animals doesn't require grand actions. It begins with caring about the living creatures around us and treating them sympathy. I decided to keep working as a volunteer and encourage others to do the same.
